One woman had a daughter and a son. She was widowed and decided to marry another man. The man also had a son.
The woman called his son her stepson.
The children grew up, the daughter got married and went to live far away from her mother, later the son got married and also went to distant lands.
Later, the second husband died, and the old woman was left alone.
The stepson also lived far away. Once the eldest son came to the woman and said:
– Mom, let you sell the house and live with me.
The old mother was very happy, quickly sold the house, got quite good money for it and went to her son. The daughter-in-law, son and children were very happy.
– Grandma had arrived!
They set the table to treat grandma, but she doesn’t want to eat anything.
– You’re not sick, are you okay?
– No, I am not sick, just very sad.
– Why? – my son asks.
– I fell asleep in the train on the way to you, and someone stole all my money.
– Is there nothing left?
And her:
– No, everything was stolen.
– They didn’t even leave you anything for bread?
– No, – says the grandmother.
– Oh, what will you eat, mother?
She stayed with her son for two more days and decided to go to her daughter. The daughter had a similar situation.
They were very happy at once:
– “Grandma is here!
And the grandmother was still sitting sad.
– I fell asleep in the train and someone took all the money from my bag.
– What a horror… and what will you eat now?
After these words, the grandmother went to her stepson. The children and daughter-in-law were very happy. And the grandmother sat down again and looked at everyone with sadness.
– Why are you so sad?
– They stole all the money I got for the house.
– Mom, do not worry, you certainly do not need that money. I will provide you with everything, – said the stepson. – No need to cry.
Once the grandmother looked out the window, and there was a house with a “For Sale” sign. The stepson told her:
– The owner decided to sell his house.
Grandma liked this house very much, it was similar to the one she used to live in.
– Get ready, let’s go look at this house – the grandmother said.
We went, saw everything and then the grandmother asked the owner:
– What price do you offer for this house?
– I put not a high price, because I need money urgently.
Just as much as she wanted for her house. And she says to her stepson:
– We’ll take it.
She paid off the owner and bought the house. The stepson, his family and grandmother moved to the new house. As soon as her own daughter and son found out about it, they immediately began to complain about such behavior of their mother:
– What right did you have to buy a house for your stepson and not for your own children.
And they did:
– You did not need me, you were afraid that I would become a sponger. And he invited me to live even without money…
