– Hey. How are you doing?
– Not bad, and you?
– What are you doing? What are you doing tomorrow?
– We’re thinking of just relaxing in the home atmosphere.
– Why so boring? I want to suggest a more fun program. My parents have a small but cozy and beautiful dacha. Let’s go on vacation!
– Let’s go to a barbeque while the weather is still good.
– The beauty there is indescribable. Not far from the forest, the air is fresh and clean, let’s walk around, relax.
– We do not mind. Thanks for the offer.
– Well, then pack up, pickle the meat on a kebab and come to us in your car.
– Okay – I answered and went to the store for meat.
It was my new employee from work who called. She seemed like a kind and pleasant woman in every way.
I bought two kilos of meat, herbs, bread, a bottle of good wine, and a cake for dessert. I thought that these products would be enough, for they would probably take something, too. I marinated the meat in spices and put it in the fridge. In the morning we packed up the baby and drove to my colleague’s driveway. There she was already waiting for us with her husband and children.
I noticed that they were only carrying a small purse. Then I thought that they had some groceries at the cottage. We arrived at the dacha. It was really beautiful and cozy. The small house was right in the pine trees. Such a view fascinated us. There was a tent and a charcoal grill in the center of the site.
We took provisions out of the car. While our men were building a fire, a friend took me on a tour of the dacha. She showed me what they had growing in their vegetable garden and said they loved the place and often vacationed there in the summer.
The kids played, ran around and had fun. It was great. Our husbands called us in to eat kebabs. Everyone knows that eating outdoors makes you hungrier than usual. We went for a walk, inhaled the delicious smell of shish kebab, and were pretty hungry. How surprised I was when I came to the table and saw that there was only the food that our family had brought.
We sat down to eat, the shashlik was incredibly delicious and juicy. At the end we had tea with cake and started to go home.
First we drove the family of a colleague to their house. As we were saying goodbye, she said that they had a great holiday, they liked everything, only next time we should marinate more meat, and it was not enough.
We were left with an unpleasant feeling after this vacation. It seems as if we were just used to eat shashlik for free and to take our car to the cottage. There is no desire to rest with these people anymore.
