– I really want a sprat, son. Will you buy them?
– What for? There’s a whole plate of sprat. Why don’t you eat them?
– My teeth aren’t strong enough to eat it. I want a sprat. At least the cheapest one. Please.
– I don’t have time. Eat what you’re given.
Robert now thought constantly that his wife was right. His father should be sent to a new place of residence: a home for the elderly.
And this despite the fact that his father had once sold the house to bail out his son. He didn’t have enough money to buy an apartment. The son made the offer to sell. He said it wasn’t hard for his father, but it was very profitable.
– You sell the house, and I’ll take you in. And you won’t be bored alone.
My father was very reluctant to give up his place. But after thinking about it, he decided to do what was best for his beloved son. So he moved. At first everything was fine, but gradually the son’s family stopped accepting him. The granddaughter did not want to have anything to do with the grandfather, and the daughter-in-law got angry on every occasion and scolded the old man over everything.
In the end grandfather just sat in his assigned corner and tried not to let anyone see him.
– Our daughter’s getting married soon. And you’re going to have to move into a nursing home. We’ve chosen the better one where you’ll be well taken care of. Your room is for a young family, they’ll live here for a while. We can’t all fit in here.
The old man was taken aback and cried. He couldn’t find the words to express his feelings.
– I’ve always gone out of my way to meet your needs. I even sold the house. I really didn’t want to, I had so many memories of that land. I wanted to die there. But I did it for you. And now you’re sending me to a nursing home?
– Calm down, Dad. We have to go now. You won’t be alone, we’ll be coming.
– I’m very disappointed. This is not how you were supposed to grow up. I’d like to believe that your mother doesn’t see what you’ve become now that you’re dead.
– You’re being too dramatic.
The son didn’t linger long when they reached the place. The old man was left alone. For a while he was very anxious and even refused to eat. But gradually the grandfather came to terms with his situation and even got used to his new home.
Six months later, the man died. The son never once visited him, despite promises. The old man left behind a million that he had been saving all his life. He bequeathed that money to a young woman. She took care of him in a nursing home. That was the grandfather’s revenge.
Robert, on the other hand, was perplexed not to find his name in the will. A lawyer handed him a note from his father. It read as follows:
“I just wanted to live out my years in peace. And you’ve been very cruel to me. That’s why I gave all the money to the one who shared my suffering with me. That girl is a very good person. Unlike you. Goodbye.”
