The man was enjoying his day off and sleeping sweetly, but suddenly the doorbell rang. Who else had brought in so early? When the man opened the door, he saw an unfamiliar older woman. She was frightened, batting her eyelashes.
– Who are you here to see? – the man asked.
– Son, don’t you recognize your mother?
– Mom? Come on in…you! – he barely made it out.
He remembered well the day he had been taken away from his mother. He had waited all those years for her to come to the orphanage and take him home. He didn’t wait. Eventually the pain subsided. The boy graduated, went to college, and opened his own business. When asked where his parents are, he says they died. He has learned to live alone and count only on himself. He is self-confident, self-sufficient and wealthy, and says nothing about the fact that he comes from a simple orphanage.
The woman doesn’t even remember when she was deprived of her parental rights. When she was young, she drank a lot, and in her drunken stupor her brain shut off altogether. She was also in jail, and she thought about her son there. No, she never loved him, she just felt sorry for him.
When her second son was born, maternal feelings overwhelmed the woman. She was ready to kill for her child. She did not think about the eldest son, but she did everything possible for the youngest – just to make him happy.
Her youngest son grew up to be as good-for-nothing as his mother. He did not get out of the children’s police room, and at 15 received his first suspended sentence. Pretty soon he would face his second, and then prison. So his mother tries to save her son from imprisonment, because she knows firsthand how life behind bars is. When she learned that the older man is successful, she immediately began to look for his coordinates.
And now she is sitting at his house, shedding tears, trying to touch her son. She tells him how she looked for him, how she prayed to God for health, and every day hoped to meet her little blood. He believed her. But something in the middle was telling her to keep her distance. Despite her fears, her son rented her an apartment, gave her money for the first time, and said that she could count on his help. He himself decided to watch her and make conclusions, whether she came out of good faith or not.
Before the holidays the man went to the orphanage where he grew up. He often brought toys and food there. An elderly babysitter came up to him.
– Mom was looking for your address. Did she find you?
– Yes. Thank you for helping her.
– But be careful, she wants to save her youngest son. A mother only wants money, don’t trust her! She doesn’t love you and never has.
– Do I have a brother?
– Yes, ask her yourself.
A lump came to his throat, and the man found it hard to breathe. He could not believe that his mother wanted to betray him again. But he overcame his emotions and went to her to find out everything. The woman had not expected such pressure and became agitated. She did not want to tell him about the younger man, because she was worried that the older man would not want to help his brother.
A few days later the man was attacked. He was beaten so badly that they had to hire a guard. The bandits admitted to the police that the man’s mother had hired them. She wanted to kill her eldest son and take over as heiress to provide her younger son a carefree life.
She repented in court, asked her son’s forgiveness, but he made his conclusions.
– I have lived before without a mother and I will live now! – he whispered through his tears.
