My husband’s son, who came into our lives after 12 years of marriage

Fifteen years ago my husband served in the army. He was a sailor. Naturally, there were no girls in the unit – but the local girls often resorted to military guys.

The guys were “hungry,” so they threw themselves at them; their own girls were far away. One-time romances were not destined to be anything more than that, for the guys’ first priority was service. That’s how my husband flirted with a 17-year-old girl. At the end of his service he dumped her and went home.

A few years later I met him. First we dated, then we got married, and we’ve been living under the same roof for 12 years. After four years of marriage we had a daughter, now eight years old. My husband always dreamed of having a son, but fate had it that way. It is difficult to call him a model father, but he constantly does homework with his daughter, sometimes spoiling her and taking her on fishing trips.

Something unexpected broke into our family idyll. My husband contacted his army friend and found out that the very young lady he had left before he left for home was pregnant by him. The whole garrison laughed at her, rumors so thick that her ears were withering, but she still carried and gave birth to the baby. She could have found his biological father through the Internet, but she did not do it, so as not to impose. This news made me sick.

After talking to a coworker, my husband immediately started looking on social media for this girl. He found it. The young lady was in a photo with her son, who looked a lot like his father. I immediately began to be jealous of my husband. Our daughter looked more like me, my husband was always worried about that. My husband was surprised and immediately started looking for contacts of his son – his parental feelings woke up. The woman did not immediately get in touch, she ignored the man for a long time, but then she condescended. Anyway, my husband’s son is 14 years old, he is an athlete and an excellent student, loves cats and his mother.

The father-son bond quickly developed. They discussed school, computer games, and future plans. This communication took up all the free time of her husband, so there was not a minute left for his daughter. He would skip school, always sat at the computer, texting with his firstborn son.

The farther into the woods, the more wood, as they say. Over the holidays my husband paid for his tickets and he came to visit us. My husband took his son everywhere, fulfilling any whim at the snap of his fingers, because the boy was no slouch. Jealousy was eating me up inside, as was my daughter. He had completely forgotten about her, saying, “I’ve been with you for eight years, and I haven’t seen him in ages. My daughter endured and cried, and when my brother left, she jumped up and down.

Communication between them continues at this rate. Now he sends him money for holidays and for nothing, and he can forget to wish my daughter a happy birthday. I have tried to explain to him that this is wrong, but who listens to me? I think it’s all his mom’s fault. If you haven’t made yourself known for 14 years, then keep quiet and don’t meddle in someone else’s family. Of course, we are not sitting on a penny, but having a son out of wedlock has taken a huge toll on our family finances.

I can’t imagine what will happen this summer. If he brings him back to us, my daughter will remember this summer vacation forever. My husband justifies his behavior with a catch phrase: boys reach out to their dads, and girls to their moms. And it seems to me that he has fatherly feelings only for his son now, and about our little girl completely forgotten. They talk every day for hours on video, and the little girl can’t see her own father at all. It pisses me off! But I can not do anything! If he’s fed up with us, let him go to his son and live there at his own pleasure.
