I remember how my mother reproached my brother for not sweeping, not wanting to wash dishes and help around the house. My father said – and still says – that this is a woman’s job. And what was a man’s job? Take out the garbage once a week? Change light bulbs? We did repairs as a family. I wanted to ask my father: is repairing also a woman’s job? That’s not fair. I have heard these phrases since childhood. When I was little, I thought it was normal, but now I am an adult and I understand that it is just nonsense. Thank God, I entered the state budget and got higher education, otherwise my father would have married me off. Because, according to my father, a woman does not need higher education, she was born to marry, give birth to children and cook food.
But my mother has higher education, she is an engineer and works in a prestigious company, earning twice as much as my father. My father has a secondary education. My brother grew up with a strange attitude to life, he has his own life guidelines. He does not help around the house and does not wash the dishes himself. My mother irons, cooks, feeds my father and brother, and does all this because she is a “woman” and has to do it. And my father and brother sit on the sofa and wait for my mother to heat the food and pour the tea. I do not communicate with my brother. We have no common interests. We have nothing to talk about, we are too different people. I think he is a spoiled, uneducated boy who cannot survive alone, he really needs a wife. Otherwise he will have to spend his whole life with his parents.
Now he lives in the apartment of his maternal grandmother. This is my mother’s inheritance. When my grandmother was alive, she said that she was leaving the apartment to both grandchildren – me and my brother. Then, when she passed away, my mother inherited it by right. We decided to rent the apartment to earn some money. And now it seems that my brother will get the apartment, because he is the only heir. I was not expecting, because my grandmother left the apartment to my brother and me, and now I will not get anything. It was a heavy blow for me. I thought that the apartment would be sold and the money would be divided between us. I was going to buy a small studio by taking out a mortgage on the house. Now I don’t know what to do. I have to start all over again.
