Fetch, fetch, clean up – I’ve heard it all my life. I’m sick of it. I’m getting a divorce at 54 years old.

Early in the morning my neighbor called me and asked:

– Did you hear what your cousin did?

– No, what is it?

– They say she’s going to file for divorce at her 54 years of age, and that’s after 30 years of marriage.

From such news, as they say, my jaw dropped. How come, it seems like a normal family, her husband did not drink, now retired, he is 9 years older than her. She has three adult children, all living separately and already has 5 grandchildren. And then she decided to get divorced.

Maybe someone mixed something up? So I immediately called the cousin and offered to meet. We agreed to meet in the park to talk quietly. And I bring you the words of the cousin in the first person.

“I just don’t have the strength, all my life I’ve been spinning like a squirrel in a wheel. My husband worked, I also worked, but after a day of work my husband would lie on the couch and watch TV or rest in some other way, or he could go with friends to drink beer, but I was starting a second shift. I think a lot of women know what I mean.

You come home from work and it starts: laundry, cooking dinner and lunch for the kids tomorrow, because they will need something to eat after school. Then you have to clean, wash the dishes, vacuum, because your spouse is tired, and the children have no time, they have homework and extracurricular activities. And many, many more things that all housewives know, they just do not notice.

And I all hoped that when the kids grow up, it will be easier. But I was wrong. The kids are grown, my husband retired, and I continue to work.

And now my beloved spouse is at home all the time, or on a fishing trip, but never does anything around the house. Every time he waits for me to come home and do everything myself.

The last straw was that I caught a cold, and when he came back from fishing, did not ask me about my health, maybe I need something, and immediately opened the fridge and began yelling why there is nothing to eat, that I could at least cook potatoes, because there is nothing difficult.

I said if it’s not difficult, then fry it yourself, at the same time and feed me. And in response I heard:

– Why do I need a wife if I am going to cook myself?

When I heard that, I said that I had had enough, we were getting a divorce. We’ll divide the apartment and live as you please. And I’ll live at least a little for myself.

The children did not like my decision. They said that I was patient for a long time, and now I’m leaving him alone, and he does not know how to do anything, he will disappear on his own.

But I no longer care. Burned out. Since he does not appreciate what he has, let him try what it is like.

That’s the way it is. Maybe everything will calm down, but my cousin has a strong attitude.

I have my doubts, because it’s not very good to stay alone in our old age.

What do you think about it?
