I inherited my dacha from my parents. Although it is more just a plot, a skewed hut on it is hard to call a house. Started the advice of relatives husband, all shouting that he must sell, the site is far, all redevelopment is necessary and the dacha is not needed. We were told that we will figure it out ourselves.
My husband and I earn good money, our daughter is grown-up. We decided to build a permanent house on the plot for year-round residence, you can relax in the summer, come on holidays in winter. And if we get tired of the city, we will leave the apartment to our daughter and go back there ourselves. The good thing is that the roads there are cleaned, the light and water all the year round – people still live there in the winter, but not many.
All the savings and three years of our life were spent in the house. We spent all our savings and took a loan, but we made it. The house was spacious, in addition to the living room, 4 rooms, underfloor heating everywhere, panoramic windows in the living room. Built a small banya.
We have grown so tired during the construction that we planted trees, lawn and fruit trees and bushes have not touched, which remained from my parents. Except for one greenhouse with cucumbers and tomatoes for salad, we gave up planting altogether.
During all the construction, our daughter helped us a little bit. Sometimes we asked my husband’s brother and sister for help – always a refusal, I asked my mother-in-law about small things, such as a cat to come to us to feed, if we did not have time in town, she lives two doors down from us. But they always told us: “You started the construction – so flounder on your own, and do not drag us into it. We don’t need your dacha. But we are not offended – they were right.
After the construction was over, we invited everybody to a housewarming party. We took a steam bath, roasted meat on coals. All went away only on Monday. And that’s where it all started. Every weekend we had guests, and every weekend. I was starting to get tired.
Then the raw materials did not come on time at work, and half of us were sent on vacation for a week on their own account, and I decided to go to the cottage to breathe the air. My mother-in-law found out I was at the cottage and rushed over there, too. And my whole week consisted of either scolding or looking after her.
As soon as I turned away, went into the house – there began some kind of commotion. When I went out to get groceries for just 30 minutes, I came back to several feet of overgrown lawn. My mother-in-law had decided that we needed to plant beets. My words that this is our property and we ourselves will decide what to plant and do – she seemed to miss my ears.
I had to lock up all the gardening tools, but she did not give up. She was poking around the house, rearranging things. Then I called my husband and told him I was at my limit – he took her away.
Then my brother’s husband called, saying he was coming over for the weekend with his family to the bathhouse. I said no, I explained that I need to rest there too, and after a week with their mom – I need a lot of rest. I wish they would come like people. All their refrigerator will eat and litter, and then I have to clean up. They don’t bring meat for a kebab, don’t help me wash dishes.
Two days later I got a call from production, the raw materials came (I am a technologist), I had to go to town. Then again, a call from my husband’s family – I strained, but no, it turns out they asked how we are, whether everything is good. We chatted about nothing. I was even surprised. Again, there was a problem with the raw material at the factory: they brought it, but not that, so I came in vain. I am going to my dacha, my husband says that he will ask me to leave for the day, too, and we go together.
The house is open, and judging by the smoke, we can see that our bathhouse is heating. We go in, and all my husband’s relatives are there. It turned out that we stopped letting them in, and they wanted to celebrate the birthday of our niece here.
They took copies of the keys when they first came to visit. And today they called us to find out whether we are at the cottage or not, if not, they decided to go. And here is a wonderful picture: at our dacha, without our consent, all the relatives celebrate the holiday without us…. oil painting….
We kicked them out immediately, the next day we changed the locks, and two weeks later I quit my job and moved there. My husband tried a little and quit his job too, he’s an accountant – started working part-time at home and managing clients remotely.
And now we’re finally grandparents, now we’re raising our granddaughters. This house was built for our daughter and for our girls, not for those who want to have a free vacation and make their own rules.
