I don’t get it! Who ate the jam?

Sunday morning began with a quarrel.

-I don’t understand! Who ate all the jam?

On Saturday night, a man asked his wife to make pancakes with jam for breakfast.

-“I want pancakes,” he said, “with raspberry jam.

To please her husband, she woke up early and made a lot of pancakes.

And when the whole family was sitting at the table and was about to start eating pancakes, it suddenly turned out that there was no jam. And there was only an empty jar on the shelf.

-“And what to do with it now?” the man asked, pointing to the plate of pancakes in front of him.

-Could you try it with condensed milk?

-Thank you very much! Mm-hmm. Thank you very much. Try it with butter. Yeah. Just eat it yourself. I don’t want that…

He paused for a short, sad moment.

-Once in a lifetime, you could say, I decided to eat pancakes with jam and… Here you go.

The man made a hurt face and looked out the window.

-Well, don’t be so upset, – the woman consoled the man, looking at her mother-in-law. She stroked his head, and he evaded in every possible way, showing that he did not need any affection.

“Where could it have gone?” said the mother-in-law.

Although who knows, but she knew very well where it went.

Because it was she who ate this jam. Not at once, of course.

After all, it was a liter jar.

My mother-in-law ate the jam for a whole week. A little bit every day, that’s why it’s gone.

Why didn’t she confess right away?

The fact is that she did not think that her beloved son would be so upset about it. So… She was afraid of something.

And now, since she didn’t say it right away, she had to pretend to be innocent.

-No other way than her granddaughter ate it, – the mother-in-law said, looking sternly at her granddaughter.

-“What am I talking about? Can you believe it? How could I put all the blame on my granddaughter? Who am I after that?

The woman looked sternly at her daughter.

-I didn’t eat.

“And there is no one else,” the mother-in-law said sternly.

-“I’ll buy her a scooter later, take her to the cinema, cafes and amusement parks every day.

The girl burst into tears.

-Come on, my daughter, come on, – said the man, – Dad is not angry. She ate it and ate it. You’re welcome.

– And what about you now? Will you be hungry?

-Don’t worry about me, – he consoled his daughter, – I’ll find something to eat them with. There are so many things on the table. I won’t go hungry.

The girl calmed down and everyone began to eat breakfast.

After breakfast, the mother-in-law entered the room of her granddaughter.

I thought of something.

And she told the girl about her plans for a scooter, movies, rides and everything else.

The girl listened attentively to her grandmother and silently, with understanding, nodded her head.

-“I’ve been thinking, grandma,” the eight-year-old girl said, “about this case… A confusing case. An incomprehensible case. Dark. How do you put it? I don’t know. So the scooter and everything else you’ve listed here won’t get you off.

-What do you mean?

-I mean, I’ve been watching the jam jar empty all week with interest.

Olenka made big eyes and threw up her hands.

-“That’s the way it is, grandma,” the girl said with a sigh, “I know everything about you.

-Why didn’t you… betray me?

-“What do you take me for, grandma?” the girl was offended. You betrayed me! Your beloved grandmother? They would never expect me to do that.

-You’re such a… -but the girl stopped her.

-“I’ll send you the shopping list later,” she said. “It’s more serious than we thought, isn’t it? There’s a lot to consider. I can’t tell you right away what I want for my loyalty.

-I understand. -I understand. Think, granddaughter. Don’t hurry. Grandma agrees to everything.

My mother-in-law sighed and went into the room to count her money that she had been saving...
