No, let him scream all he wants! I won’t go. – A friend refuses to approach her three-month-old son

A year ago my husband and I became very good friends with our neighbors. We often went to visit each other, and then they were forced to move to another city because of work. It was a shame, because we got pregnant almost at the same time, and it is so wonderful to be pregnant with your friend! It was only 3 hours by car to their new place, but you don’t drive that often.

We often called her and just dreamed of meeting. I gave birth 2 months earlier, so I often gave her advice on feeding and various children’s activities that seemed useful to me. When the kids grew up a little bit, we decided to go to visit them. Our son took well to traveling by car, so there were no questions.

We arrived late in the evening, so I immediately went to put the baby to bed. When I returned to the room, the table was already set. Everyone was waiting for me.

– You coped with the baby quickly, – I said.

– We don’t put him to bed, he falls asleep by himself, – my friend replied.

– Wow! – I was surprised, because I have never heard that a three-month-old child falls asleep on his own.

We started to eat, when suddenly I felt crying. From the very beginning it was difficult to understand whose child it was and I was about to rush into the room, when suddenly my friend stopped me:

– “Don’t worry, it’s ours. I can hear it on the baby monitor.

However, neither she nor her husband moved.

– Are you going to calm him down at all?” I asked in surprise.

– No, let him scream as much as he wants! I’m not leaving. Let him calm down himself. He is used to us running around him, he is very spoiled.

And the child was not screaming with his own voice. I even wanted to go and calm him down myself, but my friend would not let me. I tried to persuade them a few more times, but then my husband just kicked me under the table, saying, calm down.

So we listened to this crying for another 20 minutes, and then the boy fell asleep. In general, everything went well, but it seemed to me that my friend had postpartum depression. She did not want to talk about this topic at all, so I did not insist too much.
