A month ago my parents had a holiday – 20 years of marriage. My grandparents and aunt came. We ordered a luxurious restaurant, a photographer, live music. And every guest said the same thing:
– Stay happy and in love!
My aunt even whispered in my ear “may you have the same relationship with your husband as your parents”. I smiled sweetly and crossed my fingers in my pocket. No one must know about our secret.
My dad has a private business, he has several shops in the market. Of course, we always had enough money, so we were not denied anything. Especially all the attention and love went to me, because I am the only daughter. A new bike, a pet, a beautiful dress and an expensive phone. Twice a year we went to the sea and spent weekends in restaurants.
I chose a university far away, so I come home only on weekends. And now once a month, if I’m lucky. I have friends here, my beloved boyfriend. I want to spend time with him.
However, for the New Year holidays I bought a ticket home. So I went to the apartment – and it was as if I could not breathe. I do not know how else to explain. And my dad had changed a lot. I hugged him tightly, and he just tapped me on the shoulders.
– Mom, what happened to Dad?
– Honey, he has a lot of work now. He almost spends all night in the office, – my mother complained.
Well, yes, my dad has a responsible position, has dozens of subordinates. So give him a salary, take care of supplies, documents, communications, taxes.
I decided to make his job easier, I cooked homemade pasta at home, which my dad loves. I called a taxi and went to his office. What a surprise it will be.
– Oh, but your dad is busy, he has an interview, – the secretary blocked the passage.
– I’ll only be a second.
I open the door… and the tray with paste falls to the ground. Here is my dad with his shirt split open and lipstick on his lips. There’s a young girl standing on the side, I think she’s my age.
– So this is your interview?
– I’ll explain everything now!
I rushed to the exit. I reached the public toilet, locked myself in and began to cry bitterly. Then the picture of an ideal family collapsed before my eyes. Why is my dad cheating on my mom? Did she really deserve it?
It seems that when you break your arm, it doesn’t hurt as much as seeing your loved one betray you. Like eating glass and feeling that lump in your throat.
I don’t know how long I was walking on the street. I just did not want to go home, because my mother is there. How can I look her in the eye now? I went to the park where we used to walk, drank coffee, walked near my school and kindergarten. And I kept thinking about my dad. As if I wanted to find the answer to this question – why?
When I came home, my mother was not there. But my dad was sitting at the table in the kitchen:
– “Sit down, I want to talk to you. It’s for mom’s sake.
I sat down. I wonder what excuse he would come up with?
– I will not make excuses now and look for different excuses. Yes, I have a lover. I love her very much.
– Then why do you deceive your mother like that?
– Because I can’t get a divorce. Almost 70% of the shares in the business are in her name.
Ha, that’s the answer. Dad’s afraid of losing all the money.
-Yeah, I’m only with your mom for the business. I haven’t felt anything for her for a long time, we even started sleeping in different rooms. But you should think carefully if you want to tell her the whole truth. Because then you won’t get a penny from me.
And I didn’t think about it, because my dad pays for the apartment, studying, rest. Moreover, for my birthday I wanted to buy a new car and get a driver’s license. It seems that he drove me into a trap.
– You don’t want to end up on the street, do you?
I just shook my head in fright.
– Then be a smart girl. Otherwise, I will leave you with an empty wallet, – my dad said and walked away.
And for almost a month I have been holding my tongue. I can’t sleep well, I lost weight because of nerves and I’m starting to go crazy. However, I do not know what to do next. After all, if I tell the whole truth, I can pay for it with tears and poverty.
