It seemed that his son had married the wrong woman, but his married life turned out so well.

The woman insisted that her son was twenty-two and that it was time to get married. We lived poor, not much change was in sight, and our son had never had much use for girls. He didn’t even have a girlfriend when his wife looked for her friend’s daughter and told him to get married. She, as it turned out, was saving money for the wedding, she helped her future daughter-in-law buy a beautiful dress, and together with her friend they paid for a cafe for the guests and planned the ceremony. The boy initially refused, he did not want to get married on my mother’s advice, he hoped for love, but she said it was better to try and get a divorce than to sit at a computer alone at such an age.

I personally sincerely wished my son happiness and generally supported him in calling off the wedding, albeit at the last minute. If he had said he definitely didn’t want to, I would have helped him myself. But the guy accepted the fate his mother worked on, and that was it.

People I knew both at the wedding and afterwards were talking about the marriage. They whispered that the guy was getting married because the bride was in a situation, that the other family must have mansions and a lot of money, though everyone knew that was not true. The daughter-in-law was from a poor family like ours.

Everyone wished the young couple happiness, and they didn’t stop discussing behind their backs. Of course, I, too, was afraid that my son would marry the wrong woman at the wrong time, but I could not change anything. I partly expected that very soon they would divorce and go their separate ways, but life took an unexpected turn.

My son had been happily married for seven years. A new place to live, a new job. His wife is also a hard worker, she could not wait to get out of maternity leave after the birth of her first child to go to work. The baby was taken care of by babysitters and my wife and I, like honorary grandparents. The boy is growing up great, though sometimes he is naughty. They don’t need anything, they have enough for everything. In my childhood, we could take our son to the nearest big city, and he takes his son and his wife to the seas.

I often hear my acquaintances sigh and call our son’s family “perfect”. His wife is wonderful, getting prettier every year, and they love each other for real, even if not from the first meeting. Since they have money and a stable job, they don’t worry about anything, and others find them “perfect.

And I know that sometimes they have scandals, sometimes they have bad streaks, but they get out of everything successfully and their family is only getting stronger.

My wife hopes to get news soon about my daughter-in-law’s second pregnancy. She recently had a dream about a fish, and she proves that it is a sign that there will be a second grandchild. The children are quite ready for that. And no one can say right away that they didn’t marry for love and not by calculation, it just happened, and married life ended up working out in the best way for the two of them.
