A man already thought it was some kind of a curse. He could meet a girl in a movie theater or at work, get attached to her, fall in love, and then find out that she was married and sometimes even had children. There was one particularly persistent admirer who followed him around even after the truth about her marriage was revealed. She cried to him about her horrible life and abusive husband, about the children she could not raise properly, and most importantly, she did not want to. She promised to leave her family for him, but he was adamantly against it. He himself grew up in a single-parent family – his father left him and his mother when they needed his support the most. He had another family on the side, and he chose it over leaving his old one. He lived for years in another city with three new children, provided for them all, and the guy and his ex-wife didn’t get a bit of his attention in his time.
To finally break up the unwanted relationship, the guy quit his old job and found another job. He got acquainted with girls exclusively online and with those who were younger, and at the first meeting he found out everything about her exes and the probable secret husband she was hiding. It got to the point of some kind of paranoia, and his greatest fear was falling in love and then finding out that his girlfriend was already taken.
In the new place he tried very hard to shut himself off from his girl colleagues, but he happened to work closely with the boss’s secretary. They got along quite well in their free time. They could meet on weekends for coffee or go bowling together. The guy really liked her, but he hesitated to make the first move, afraid that she already had someone.
Luckily she was braver and, inviting him to the movies, made it clear that this was not a friendly trip to the premiere, but a date.
– A date? – He marveled. – Don’t you have a boyfriend? I thought you were seeing someone else.
– Why would you think that?
– You’re beautiful and smart and everyone likes you. I like you. That’s why I was sure you were seeing someone.
The girl laughed at his words. She assured him she was totally alone because of her eternal workload, but she really wanted to try to build a relationship with him.
And so it worked out. They communicated at work and outside of work, very soon they became so close that they rented a house together, and after gaining confidence, the guy proposed to her. He had never had a happier day when she said yes.
He really wasn’t lucky in love before, but he only had to wait a little longer to meet someone he could trust and whose love was only growing every day after so many failures.
