– I’ve decided I’m going to get married,” the son announced at dinner.
Dad even choked on his breath, and Mom stopped chewing, looking at her son with all her eyes.
– What do you mean? – She inquired perplexedly. – At whom?
– She is new. So beautiful, so smart, so charming,” the boy sighed languidly, propping his head with his hand.
Because of this girl and lost his appetite, and he could not do anything right.
– Does the girl know about it? – Dad asked, trying to hold back a smile.
– Yes. I told her today, and she said that she didn’t mind if I have an apartment.
– And you have? – Mom was surprised.
– Of course I do. I mean, we live in an apartment. Dad has a car, and I promised to lend it to her for the wedding…
Dad shook his head, as if to say that he hadn’t signed up for anything like that, and he wasn’t planning on lending his son a car anytime soon.
– What does she have? Is she such a good bride? – Mom was already beginning to get a taste of the conversation.
– Yes,” the son answered excitedly, “she had the most delicious lunch. She’s neat and she speaks beautifully.
Mom no longer restrained her laughter, pointing to her son’s full plate.
– Was lunch better than what I made for dinner? You don’t eat anything.
– Leave him be, he’s all thinking about his upcoming wedding,” his father joked. – Only I forbid you to get married until you show me your math and dictation marks.
The son looked at his father frightened. He sat all day after school thinking about the girl, did no homework, and wrote the dictation today so badly, because, again, the new girl in class was very distracting to him. She was the prettiest girl he had ever seen. And he wasn’t the only one who had a crush on her, so he concentrated all his energy on winning her heart, not on lessons.
– Come on, Dad!
– If you’ve eaten, go do your homework. No wedding, no apartment, no car as long as your grades are below the plinth.
The son was offended, but obediently got up from the table and went to his room.
– Oh, these fifth-graders,” my mother sighed.
– You don’t say,” Dad agreed with her.
