A second proposal in marriage or how important it is to give men gifts

The couple had been married for eight years. He did everything for her, took care of her, protected her, pampered her. The woman had heard from all sides what a wonderful husband she had. There was even a case where she lost her wedding ring at sea, and her husband gave her a new one the same week.

“So everyone knows you’re busy and you’re mine,” he explained, handing over the present.

The woman always loved his attention and the expensive gifts, too. She was like a stone wall behind her husband and somehow did not notice that she obviously gave him less than he gave her. She did not give him any birthday presents, except for a romantic dinner, and he always gave her something interesting and expensive besides a bouquet of roses. And she generally didn’t spoil him very often with delicious food, thinking that after work they were both too tired to do anything and something from cooking or delivery would be enough.

Her husband never rebuked her for it, but her mother did.

– You yourself with a second ring, and your husband still does not have an engagement ring. Why didn’t you think of buying one for him all these years? All the girls stare at him – they don’t know he’s married.

That really hurt the woman. She preferred not to see women look at her husband because she knew he was too wonderful for others not to be interested in him. It wouldn’t have occurred to her that it was the lack of a ring.

Somehow, they only had enough money for a ring for her during the wedding, and he temporarily borrowed it from a friend for himself. He returned the ring immediately after the ceremony, and even with what he could afford such a “luxury” for a long time, he didn’t buy a ring.

The woman didn’t look for reasons or important dates, she just went out and bought the ring. A gold one, without any frills. And in the evening, when her husband came home from work, there was a velvet box waiting for him on the bedside table.

– What is it? – he didn’t understand. – Did you buy yourself something new?

– For you,” the woman answered, barely controlling her emotions.

Her husband obviously did not expect anything, but when he opened the box with the ring, he was touched and even pressed his lips, looking pitying.

– You bought a ring for me? – he put it on his ring finger and squeezed his wife in a big hug. – Thank you! I’ve always wanted to ask you to pick it out together, but getting it from you was… so special! So you made me a second marriage proposal?

They laughed and cuddled together, and then happily left for the kitchen to cook dinner together, since the weekend was ahead.
