When I saw another woman in my husband’s car, I opened the door and asked just one question

I never thought that my figure was important to men. I’ve never been skinny. I was always of a normal build. You couldn’t call me fat either. I had a lot of boyfriends when I was young. We dated for about a year and then got married. Everything was great at first. Love and understanding. My son was born, and then it started. I gained ten kilos almost immediately. I didn’t manage to lose them. My husband began to treat me coldly.

He didn’t even try to hide his cold attitude toward me. Often he would say to me, “Look at what you’ve become like. You’ve gotten so fat you’re unrecognizable. It’s embarrassing to even go out with you.” And it hurt. I tried my best.

The baby was taking up a lot of my time, and I almost didn’t have time for myself. I looked at myself in the mirror and realized that I was far from perfect. I wanted to be the way I was before I got married and had a baby. And my husband constantly criticized me.

I tried to take care of myself, but it didn’t help much. My mother told me that I shouldn’t worry, that it was just our body shape. My mother-in-law always reassured me, but at the same time told me that I should look after myself. My husband’s brother, on the other hand, told me it was even better that way. He was five years older than me and two years older than my husband.

He still didn’t have a family of his own. He comes to visit us often, and we get along well. I ask him why he still isn’t married; he says he hasn’t met the right one yet. Sometimes he laughs and adds, “I need someone who looks like you, and today’s girls are chasing a perfect body. You can’t even go to a restaurant with them. They don’t eat anything, and I can’t eat in their presence either. It’s embarrassing.

All of our conversations are light and humorous. My husband sometimes says something hurtful to me about my being overweight, not embarrassing to strangers. Even his brother makes comments to him about it. It got to the point where my husband was increasingly staying late after work, and sometimes not even coming home in the evening. All the time he kept referring to the fact that he was busy. But I am not blind and understand something in life. So well-wishers began to denounce that they saw him with a young and slender girl.

One day I saw my husband’s car and a girl in it outside a store. I went over, opened the door and asked who she was. She told me without hesitation that she was practically his wife. There you go! An unexpected statement; and who am I then? Then my husband came up. I asked: “What does all this mean?” He told me, “Go home; we’ll talk later.” He got into his car and drove away. I came home and couldn’t find my place. My husband came home and told me he was filing for divorce.

He had fallen in love with someone else and was leaving me for her. I didn’t stop him or even ask him to. He packed his things and left. That same night his brother stopped by. He already knew everything. He began to calm me down. He talked to me for a long time, and I calmed down.

And then he confessed that he had loved me for a long time. It had been six months since we were married. He calls me his “favorite bun.” And I don’t have any complexes about my figure. I’m perfectly happy. And my husband and that girl didn’t work out either. They broke up, and he’s looking again.
