Now I understand why my husband introduced my mother-in-law only on our wedding day

Many young daughters-in-law suffer from their mothers-in-law and cannot complain to anyone. We just need to calm down. Our first wedding anniversary is coming up. The relationship with my mother-in-law isn’t quite settled yet. They are rather incomprehensible, but far from ideal, that’s for sure.

I asked my husband to introduce me to his mother before the wedding, because he already knew mine. He kept putting it off: there was no time, or my mom was busy, or something else. They say, you’ll have time to get acquainted. In the end we met on the wedding day. The meeting came out dry: on my sincere and smiling “Hello!” she said through the teeth, “Hello.

Previously my husband said that his mother is wonderful and is sympathetic to everything. But once I told him that I was worried that she would interfere in our lives. After all, I’ve seen a lot of this in my childhood. But my husband assured me that his mother wasn’t like that at all. She always said that he would choose his own girl to be his wife and build his family with her. And she would never criticize his choice or teach him about life. A few days after the wedding, my husband came home from work and was drinking tea in the kitchen with a thoughtful expression on his face. I asked what was bothering him. The answer was unexpected:

– I think my mom might not like you.

Turns out my mother-in-law might not like that I don’t wash my eggs with baking soda before using them. I leave the dishes in the sink, because it’s convenient. I leave the dish sponge right on the sink rather than on a separate plate. I make broth at once, not in two waters. And many other things. I was just shocked!

I asked my husband:

– And why should she not like something about me? After all, you and I have our own family. She doesn’t live with me.

– But I’m her son! I’m used to living like that. So you have to do what she does!

Then I objected that my kitchen is different, not the way he has it at home. I can live as I like in my own home and be my own mistress.

But my husband said that from now on we were going to live in a different order, and I should get used to it.

Then for four months we lived well. When we met my mother-in-law, she smiled and politely inquired about my affairs, our family relations, and her son’s involvement in household chores. When we got a dog, literally within a week half the town was aware that I wasn’t cooking bones and meat for her. Like, that’s how stupid I am for feeding my dog raw food. And my poor mother-in-law can not cope with such a negligent daughter-in-law. Turns out I was useless!

And I had no idea I was so useless. I told my husband that I had found out from an acquaintance with whom I walked the dog in the morning. I didn’t like hearing that about myself from a stranger. I told him to talk to his mother, but he just laughed and advised me to forget about everything. Now my mother-in-law also resents me. I always call her by her first name and patronymic, and she can tell me a dry “hello.

And so will pretend that I did not notice. My husband thinks I do not respect his mother. After all, I do not want to adopt the order of their family, not trying to make friends with my mother-in-law. It turns out that his mom really misses … our dog. By the way, his parents often came to our house for tea without an invitation.

But everything is just ahead, because we will have to live in their apartment for a while. I can not imagine how I can get along there? It’s scary to imagine what will happen if we have a baby. Probably all the neighbors will know how I swaddle, bathe, and feed him. I think I’ll have to go back to my parents. I doubt my mother-in-law will let me stay with them in peace.
