My father-in-law told me to meet him at the train station. I met him, but I didn’t take him home

My husband and I are a happy couple.

We met when we were studying, but I couldn’t even think of working in the capital, I wanted to go back. I knew that with my specialty I would be a queen in my hometown, a rare specialist.

I know how to protect my interests, I would not give up mine, but I wouldn’t need anyone else’s either.

I am a specialist in heart disease, but not in people, and in animals: cats, dogs, even cows – all for me. Wealthy clients are few, but they are, and where do they run with their pets? My husband is also a veterinarian, but he is strong in diagnostics.

We poked around the local clinics – all the same thing. Serious people have nowhere to go, all the most simple operations: spaying and vaccinating. They don’t take complex cases – it is not profitable.

But we have made a separate clinic for such complicated cases, with good diagnostics. We also do research for our colleagues, and we can keep our patients, if our profile is good. We work as a team, so it works out great.

We make good money, but we don’t charge high prices either. That is why we have enough clients. We have already bought our own apartment, have already hired assistants, so I do not sleep at the clinic, have time to take care of children and home.

But my husband’s parents are still not happy with me.

I know they are mad that he left for me, they all hope that he will come back and drag the clinic and the family to the capital. I do not know why they have a nerve, my husband has two sisters, both live next door to their parents, so no one left them. We were the ones who helped both sisters, we gave them both money for the down payment.

I all perfectly understand: my sister-in-law would prefer to see lying in a long box. But we’re being polite.

I’m being polite.

And my husband’s parents have never heard of boundaries and distance.

So my father-in-law calls me today:
“Meet me tonight at 7:00, I’m flying out.
It’s 5:00!
Hurry up, then.

Fine, I need somewhere to take the child, to make my assistant happy that she is staying late, I will say nothing about ruined dough.

On my way.

The youngest sits in the back, in the baby seat.

Husband in the clinic, is studying for an ultrasound cat, injured in an accident: can not be transported, will operate. My father-in-law’s crown does not allow me to call a cab.

So I go.

Yelling at me, he began on the phone, when he was looking for a parked car. I refused to get out, I did not want to wake the baby out.

He sat down, slammed the door and started yelling at me:
You could have gotten out…
My grandson is sleeping, don’t wake him up.
What’s the big deal,” the father-in-law didn’t turn down the volume, “whoever wants to sleep, sleeps.

The child woke up and whimpered.

Do you think grandfather tried to calm him down? Did he at least get a toy?

No, he didn’t. I learned that I have children uneducated, that I could not set them against the grandfather, since the house I sit – you have to do the little ones, and not watch TV.
So working in the clinic for five hours, not ten or twelve, is sitting at home?
But my son works!

Then he began to swear that he was going fast, now I’m going to kill us. But I’m not even a non-punishable twenty! He told me for an assistant, I could do it myself, the money is not superfluous. He informed me that my husband already had a bride at home, a young woman, who would give birth to normal, obedient children.

The child was whimpering, and the grandfather turned around and yelled at him to shut up while the elders were talking.

So I turned around.

I brought him back to the airport:
Goodbye. Goodbye, goodbye…

When I arrived home, my exasperated husband was waiting for me at the door: his father had already turned him on. I handed him a whimpering son:
One more word and you’ll go to daddy. There’s a bride waiting for you. And you’ll have new children, obedient ones. In the meantime, get on with it, or I’ll start yelling, too.

My husband only averted his eyes, and I realized that we had already had this conversation… Daddy never comes to see us again.
