Windcity, the mini-wind system for the urban context

Windcity is a start-up company that has patented an innovative vertical-axis wind conversion concept to make energy production possible even in variable winds. Founded by Tommaso Morbiato, CEO and R&D manager, Silvia Colladet, an engineer in charge of R&D, and Tommaso Pascon, who specializes in the study of urban wind comfort and numerical simulations with CFD codes, are also part of the team.

With the development of a new technology, Windcity increases the efficiency of fluid machines operating with alternative sources, wind and water, where today the variability of the natural resource weighs heavily on energy production. More production will finally mean offering a realistic alternative to the fossil mix market, and all conventional energy sources. The startup in recent months has focused on the role of winds in the urban context, perfecting a wind turbine with blades that adjust to the city’s winds. The wind turbines consist of mini-turbines that can sense and adapt to currents.

Windcity has also developed a new environmentally sustainable energy conversion concept that adapts to the natural shape of currents for maximum output: variable geometry for variable water flows. The Watercity hydrokinetic turbine needs no infrastructure and is an alternative to dams: a small, fully submerged device that rotates slowly while respecting the marine and river ecosystem. Thanks to the patent’s passive variable geometry, it derives energy from real, variable and turbulent water currents.
