Why I don’t keep in touch with my in-laws

My spouse’s in-laws moved to Moscow for permanent residence. Now they live very close.

They had to squeeze together as they managed to buy only an old two-room apartment in the capital for the two apartments they sold in the province. My wife and I live in an upmarket district in a new house. We have no children yet. I have a nice car. However, all this did not fall to us from heaven – we work from morning till night. Only my wife’s relatives think otherwise.

They are jealous of us. They envy us a lot. Because they often quarrel among themselves, one of the relatives is sure to sit down with us. I would have sent them away long ago, because it bothers me, but I respect my wife too much. They won’t even bring a candy for tea, but they don’t hesitate to empty our fridge.

In the evening I come home and there are two men sitting there with a bottle of beer. They are already having fun. And I am angry and hungry, wanting to rest and be alone with my wife. This picture already makes my eye twitch. And then the head of the family begins to tell me that they thought about expanding – Lizonka got married. I try to grit my teeth and congratulate her on such an important event. But only not joy they wanted to share – for help came. A mortgage without guarantors is not given, and the newlyweds do not even work yet. The esteemed father-in-law decided that I should be the one to help him.

Of course, I refused. My in-laws took offense at me – now I’m going back to an empty apartment. Where it is clean and there is food. My wife worries a little, but I am happy. I should have fought with them right after the wedding and enjoyed the peace of mind.
