My husband and I have achieved everything on our own. We have a good job, apartment, car, summer cottage. Before, we had nothing, since we were both from the countryside. We started from scratch, took risks and succeeded. We have relatives, on my side, who live very poorly.
When I went to their home and saw their conditions, I was horrified. My husband and I decided to help them. They didn’t communicate with us much before. When we came to the village, they didn’t give us anything, neither milk, nor homemade eggs, but they constantly demanded help.
At first they told us “thank you” for it, but then they already demanded it, as if we owed them something. One day I saw my aunt’s daughter come to my house with my things. For some reason we didn’t know about it. It was clear from her belongings that she was staying for a long time. I asked her why she came, she said she was going to study here and would be staying with us. I was just shocked at their impudence, because they didn’t call, warn, or ask, but just packed her bags and sent her to us.
When I called my aunt and asked why they did that, why they didn’t even ask – was I comfortable or not – my aunt was outraged and surprised at my reaction. She said that we have a mansion and plenty of space anyway, let the girl live with us. But since when is a two-room apartment a mansion. I explained to her that we are renovating and there is no room at all, and I can’t leave her at home.
She started yelling at me and saying that I was no longer her relative and hung up. Her daughter did the same thing. She was rude to me and left.
I tried to explain it to her normally, but she wouldn’t listen; she just made it sound as if I had thrown her out on the street for no reason. My mom didn’t understand me at first either, but after a while, we talked to her, and everything went back to normal. These relatives no longer communicate with us, nor with my parents, and they no longer accept help from us. To be honest, I do not even know if I did the right thing? What do you think?
