I met my future husband on a dating site. He had been divorced for three years, but he couldn’t get away from his ex-wife, who had been scandalously separated from him.
I had to put up with a lot. Every night they were on the phone for a long time sorting things out, fighting, arguing, yelling at each other. I was very nervous, I felt humiliated, I asked my husband to stop any relationship with her. But they had a four-year-old son and it kept them together. Sometimes the boy came to stay with us. Once I saw her taking my husband’s child away from her in the driveway and I realized she was hysterical. But my husband often said she was a wonderful hostess, beautiful and dressed tastefully. I was jealous and my husband didn’t notice it, at the mere mention of my ex-wife, his eyes would cloud over. I realized he still loved her!
My mother-in-law was very worried that my son couldn’t get away from his ex-wife, and that we weren’t getting along. She often called me by my ex-sister-in-law’s name. I tried not to be offended, I understood that she was used to her, her only grandson was there.
When I told my husband I was pregnant, he stood looking at me with a confused look, then asked doomfully: “do we have to get married now?” So we got married, quietly and modestly, with no wedding or guests. It pained me that I would not have wedding photos like my husband and his first wife. They were happy, laughing. Our faces were unhappy, my husband smiling ironically and me looking poker-faced after the reception. I could hardly contain my tears at the time, I realized that he didn’t love me at all. He just rushed to fill the empty space so it wouldn’t hurt so much.
My husband and I lived as good friends, but his ex-wife was getting in our way. There were constant threats and insults from her side. It only stopped when she got married. But things only got worse in our family. My husband started to drink, he distanced himself from me and the children. I gave birth to a mentally retarded son, then a daughter, but she wasn’t healthy either. But for some reason we stayed together. Eight years later, his ex-wife showed up, still beautiful and well-groomed. My husband told me that she asked to meet, supposedly she had a terminal illness and we must urgently see her to talk about their child together.
My husband was all glowing with joy when he went to this meeting. He arrived excited and started talking about our divorce. And I wasn’t even surprised, as if I had been waiting all these years for such a denouement. I didn’t make a scene, I agreed to the divorce, there was no life together anyway.
