Mother-in-law was great until she refused to pay her grandson’s kindergarten fees

My family and I live very modestly. We are raising our son. He is only three years old. First I put him in kindergarten. At the beginning of the year. I went to work, my maternity leave ended, but it didn’t make much difference to our budget. We continue to be poor. We don’t even buy anything extra, but we barely make ends meet.

The amount of monthly payment for kindergarten is two and a half thousand. We were quite happy with it. On additional classes we did not register the child – there is nothing.

One day my mother came to visit us. She stayed for two weeks. She took care of her grandson, took him to the garden, and took him back too. When we got home, we started doing it ourselves. And then we got a bill from the kindergarten teacher for five thousand rubles. Another payment. I was shocked! As it turned out, my mother decided to sign her son up for a few extra activities, including a speech therapist, sports, and dancing.

When the month was up, I canceled everything. Only for the past time already had to pay. My husband and I started thinking about where to get the money. My husband suggested borrowing from his mom. So we did. After the news of the purpose for which we borrowed the money, my mother-in-law informed us that she agreed to pay for the extra circles. After my husband and my mother talked, the funds arrived on my card, with a note for my grandson.

To be honest, at first I felt uncomfortable that my mother-in-law decided to help us. How can my husband and I can be considered parents if we are not able to provide for our only son? Afterward, I got used to the monthly receipts and realized that there was nothing shameful about it. In fact, why shouldn’t a grandmother pay for her grandson’s leisure time? It’s the same if she gives him toys or things.

My mother-in-law has been paying for my grandson’s classes for two years. She was never late in paying. We never even reminded her or asked. The year in kindergarten before school is the most important. After all, there was preparation at all stages. These classes were not free. In a couple of years, my spouse and I did not get better. So again there was the question of payment. How to get ready for school without taking these classes? A schoolboy will be good at absorbing material, if he can write and read. Otherwise, he will begin to fall behind in the program.

I called my mother-in-law and tried to persuade her to cancel my son’s lessons with a speech therapist. My son spoke well and the speech therapist was no longer needed. And instead the money could have been redirected to school pre-kindergarten. My mother-in-law said with a businesslike attitude that she would not pay for the preparatory classes, and that the speech therapist really should be canceled. It would even be easier for her.

A couple of days later I went for a manicure. And my husband and son went to my mother-in-law. When I got home, I saw that my husband was upset and angry. I knew right away what was wrong. My grandson told his grandmother that he did not go to any classes. But instead he was getting ready to go to first grade. My husband’s mother got terribly angry. She called us liars and accused us of being mean. She also added that we wouldn’t see any more money from her. And she told us to pay her back what we had spent the month before.

I called her back, offered to negotiate, but she did not even listen to me. She just put it down to a fact. She wouldn’t let anyone cheat on her. She’s had enough. And we’ll have to pay for the classes ourselves.

So now I do not know what to do. Since my mother-in-law no longer pays for day care, we will not pay for classes. And my husband, on top of everything else, has sided with his mother. She probably gave him a lot of bullshit that he believed. She did a good job on him, didn’t she?
