– Listen, my neighbor has two boys growing up, maybe you could give them something and stuff.

I think they’ll need some…

It just so happens that me and my relatives and most of my acquaintances have all boys’ children. Only my best friend has girls growing up. So things for the kids we buy rarely, turns here, a kind of exchange fund. A friend, by our example, too, organized such a thing, with the mothers who have girls in the family.

One day we met at the playground, chatting, and the friend said:

– Listen, my neighbor has two boys growing up, maybe throw them something and things, I think they will not be superfluous.

– No problem, just going to do “inventory”, what’s what to whom, tomorrow I’ll bring you a couple of bags, will pass.

The next day, as promised, I gave my friend bags of good-quality washed clothes, and since then I began to quite regularly supply the children with clothes that I knew in absentia.

One day, taking a bag of clothes, I went out to the playground to walk with the children, but I could not find my friend there. I called her and it turned out they had gone to the woods with the whole family. My friend asked me to take my stuff to the apartment in front of hers and I went up to the entrance of the house next door after I had gone to the store for some sweets for the kids.

The door was opened by a young mother in a long-worn bathrobe with her nightgown sticking out from under it.

– Who are you?

I explained who I was, and my mother somehow grumbled in disappointment:

– Oh, well, come on in, if you’re here.

It was as if she was expecting to see someone else, and here I suddenly showed up.

I stepped over the threshold and was horrified. The apartment was a mess, and there were two boys running around, not paying any attention to me. Despite the fact that I had already given them a lot of clothes, they were in dirty frayed pants, and the same T-shirts.

Their mother caught my eye and waved her hand:

– They always fit into something, so I don’t change them, it’s hard to wash them…

I handed her a bag of clothes and candy. My mother took the bag, looked into it, and practically threw it into the corner of the hallway, where there was the same bag that I had given her before, not even disassembled yet. She obviously had no desire to thank me. Then she offered to drink tea, also very peculiarly:

– There are candies, you can have tea, too…

I refused such a “polite” offer:

– Thank you, I’ll drink at home, and I brought candy for your children.

Without saying goodbye, I left, and when we met again with a friend, asked not to involve me in such adventures with such ungrateful mothers, who do not need our children’s things, and who probably do not even know the word “Thank you.
