My husband and I and his brother and his wife were married the same year. They fly to different countries and cities 2-3 times a year, go to theaters, movies, dine in cafes, buy food in good stores. We live in my husband’s apartment, which he earned on his own before marriage for 10 years. My husband’s habit of saving and denying himself a lot of things has remained, and I supported him in this, we do not give each other gifts, we went on vacation 2 times during the entire time.
We have a small child, we want to expand and take a new shared apartment. The apartment where my brother-in-law and his wife live belongs to my mother-in-law’s in-laws, it’s been 5 years and they are still there. And my husband’s income has gone up. Now that the in-laws need an apartment and my brother-in-law has nowhere to move out, my mother-in-law thinks that my eldest son just has to help them out, give them money for a down payment or let them in to live.
I reminded my husband that at this rate we were not going to get anywhere. My mother-in-law once told me that she could raise three kids in a two-bedroom, which would be fine. She has three children herself, and a two-bedroom apartment, but in another city. I have a feeling his mother will get him and get her way. He has been helping his brother all his life, and he excused him a lot, saying that he was young and wanted it all, but there are limits! My husband somehow got by without everything he has. I’m afraid my husband will go along with his mother.
How do I protect my husband from their pressure? I would not want to ruin the family because of their problems.
