I’m tired of being overprotected by my husband’s parents

I have a wonderful relationship with my husband’s parents. They live in a village an hour away from us with two grandmothers. They are good people, love us, help a lot. And I am eternally grateful to them for everything they do for us. But, like all parents, they like to teach, to stick their noses into our business. That didn’t bother me much before I had kids. We went to visit them every other week and everyone was happy.

With the arrival of the kids, his parents and grandparents apparently decided that they were their kids. Constant lectures began about how I should swaddle, dress, what to feed, how to feed. The list goes on and on. We began to have conflicts on this basis. We did not stop going to visit them; we still went every two weeks. Consequently, my personal life with my husband disappeared, and the resolution of important issues in our family was accompanied by unnecessary and intrusive advice from my parents and grandmothers. We spent all the holidays at their house in the village.

But I want to spend more time with my family, without his parents. Our weekends are divided into trips to the village and, when not in the village, chores (trips to the store, repairs, cleaning, etc.). There is no time left for family night. And I want to spend time with my husband and children. As a result, over time, we begin to go to the village once every three weeks, his parents begin to call every night on a video link. Relationships began to heat up.

This New Year we decided to celebrate at home, our little family, and for New Year’s weekend we went to visit my grandmother. When my mother-in-law found out that we would not come for New Year and would come to them only after the New Year holidays, she dropped her head, you could tell by her face that someone had died. Our communication with her changed. I, of course, very angry about it because my opinion again do not want to respect, do not want to take our decision calmly, because it is our personal life, and we do not have to spend all the holidays with them, do not have to ask their permission to leave town.

Now is the moment when I am really choked by their overprotection, already sick of their love and absolutely do not want to go to visit them.
