I said it was my mother-in-law’s birthday present, let her see at least once in her life what cleanliness means.
Maria has been married to Emma’s son for eight years and their relationship has been smooth from day one. Maybe the reason is that they have never lived together, or maybe it’s just that her mother-in-law is a kind and non-conflictive person who will never hold a stone behind her back.
– From day one my mother-in-law was always willing to give us her last! – shares Maria. – She offers us her help in every situation. That day her husband picked her up from work and they went shopping together. Maria bought her mother-in-law a nightgown and slippers, but they couldn’t find a bathrobe anywhere in the right size. After they went to several stores, they decided to stop at the mother-in-law’s house and pick up the bathrobe and take it to their parent’s house. The husband had a key to his parent’s apartment, and so the young ones had no problem getting into it.
– To say that what I saw there shocked me is to say nothing. I never pretended to be a cleaner, it happens that I do not wash the floor for weeks, things lying around the apartment and dishes are often in the sink overnight. But this is too much! In my mother-in-law’s apartment there were paved paths along the dusty black floor, cobwebs were hanging from the ceiling in shreds, a century-old layer of dust was everywhere, and things were piled among all this glory. After that I understood why she had asked us to buy her a robe. We couldn’t find a robe in all that mess, so we had to go to the other end of town to get one. When we brought things to Emma, I didn’t tell her anything about the condition of her apartment.
This incident happened soon after we were married. But now my mother-in-law is no longer ashamed of her mess and invites her son and his wife to visit her, but she doesn’t even try to clean up before they come, and besides, she starts sulking when the young people don’t want to come to her.
– There isn’t even a place to sit down. – She just throws things from one chair to another and invites me to sit down. While we did not have children it was half the trouble, but after the baby was born I told her to let her come to us herself.
Emma is always ready to babysit the baby, she takes her baby for walks with great pleasure, while her daughter-in-law runs to get groceries or to the hairdresser’s. My mother-in-law loves her granddaughter and that is why she began to insist that her parents bring her to stay with her overnight.
– I mother-in-law quietly hinted that before the arrival of a child would be nice to clean up, but she does not respond to my words.
– My spouse is very clean. He cleans the floor himself, never leaves a dirty plate behind. He has never thrown his socks all over the apartment, he doesn’t even leave a cup near the computer. His mother, on the other hand, is completely different.
And recently it was the mother-in-law’s anniversary, usually the young people gave the woman money for her birthday, on which she bought gifts, but this time Maria decided to give her husband’s mother the services of a cleaning company.
– We gave her mother-in-law an envelope with a coupon in it. We didn’t tell anyone what was in the envelope, and Emma was offended. She asked me then: “Do you think my place is dirty?” Now the parent has been crying for weeks and does not even pick up the phone when we call her.
