When I think back to my childhood, I get violently nauseous. All these grim, gray everyday lives of poverty and ruin have always terrified me. And that’s how my mother and father and I lived. They were ordinary workers, not at all attractive in appearance. At least I was lucky with my face and figure. My mother worked all her life as a cook in the factory canteen, my father as a carpenter in the same factory.
We lived in my grandmother’s old apartment, which my parents could not make look decent for 20 years. I looked at it all and realized that I did not want to live like that in the future. But I wasn’t particularly lucky with my intellect, my parents didn’t have any connections. That’s why I didn’t study anywhere after high school. What could the future hold for me without a diploma. I went to courses, started doing manicures and massages. But this, too, in fact, not much to earn.
Once came to me for a manicure one man. I was only 23 years old at the time, he was 44. So solid, stately, very unattractive on the face, but as I saw it, he was incredibly passionate about me. Alex was a businessman, he owned a couple of restaurants in our town, and he was also an eligible bachelor. He was 44 years old, unmarried, with no offspring either. He started courting me, and I realized that it was a great option, because with his money I would always live a great life. Before, all my boyfriends were handsome, but poor. This one was rich, but he was ugly. Anyway, I finally agreed to be his wife. Love is such a thing, I thought. The main thing was that I would live well.
And yes, Alex spoiled me a lot – gave me gifts, took me abroad, we dined at the best restaurants, I had expensive perfume, gold, designer clothes. And then he started asking for a baby. I did not want to have a baby with him. What kind of baby would come from a short, chubby man with a bald head. So I kept avoiding intimacy with him. Then one day I met my ex-boyfriend, we hooked up, and a month later I found out I was pregnant. Alex was so happy, but I wasn’t – I didn’t know whose baby. My son was born, my husband showered me with gifts at the time. It wasn’t until years later, as my son grew up, that I realized he definitely wasn’t Alex’s. Tall, statuesque, blue-eyed, incredibly handsome-he was an exact copy of my ex. But no one knew that, only me.
It’s been 20 years, and then somehow I had a little too much alcohol and confessed to his girlfriend about his mistake. My friend, who had always been jealous of me, told her husband everything the very next day. Without thinking for a long time he took a paternity test and it turned out that the son really wasn’t his. My husband kicked me out of the house, and I was left with nothing – now I live with my parents. My son is on his father’s side, even though he is not my father, they communicate, their relationship has not changed. So why did I do that, I don’t know.
